I come from a rural area in central Virginia. But, when it comes to defining my hometown, I tend to struggle. I live in the area of two small towns—Greenwood and Crozet.
While my mailing address might be Greenwood, the only town structure amongst the hills and fields is the Post Office. I’ve gone 5 miles down the road to Crozet—to the library, amazing pizza and the hardware store—my whole life. Both towns seem like home to me.
I wanted to depict these two places I call home in a poster that really represents the whole area and community. So depending upon the orientation, a different town is more prominent. Yet, the most important part of these homes is constant in both; that’s the Blue Ridge Mountains. These majestic mountains are really what makes home so special—not the towns.
These posters were letterpress printed with the mountain and town imagery, hand cut in linoleum blocks.
